“Every so often a seal slipped into the water, where it was transformed into pure, fluid energy.”

Threads – The Delicate Life of John Craske. Julia Blackburn.

From the Olive and George collection, drawing inspiration from the Norfolk fishermen’s jumpers of the 19th and early 20th centuries, Rook takes its name from Gilbert “Leather” Rook and is a womenswear cardigan/coat richly knitted with fisherman iconography; the main body is constructed in seaweed stitch and has fully fashioned underarm gussets – as the original Ganseys would have had.

Thick, horizontal rung stitches have been used to knit the cosy shawl collar – the same motif has also been used to trim the arm holes – again following the traditional patterns. This garment has deep, practical pockets and can be fastened with a smooth metal pin, or worn open with the collar standing proud.
